Dear visitor,
Welcome to the official website of the International Week Coordinating Organization (IWCO). It is my pleasure to introduce to you, a worldwide network of International Week organizations, which promote intercultural exchanges of business, academic, and social issues between students all around the globe.
In the last decade, a new venture has evolved through young aspiring students worldwide. Student unions, independent students and foreign relations departments in various Universities across Europe and Asia, started an ambitious initiative in order to advance cultural and economical exchanges of information through a one week convention. This has been known since then as annual International Week (IW).
This convention contains various opportunities for exchange of information and ideas as each delegation presents its country and University’s virtues and advantages. Lectures are given by professors of the hosting University, macroeconomic figures are reviewed and discussed and above all, there are tours to local companies which represent local industries and economic growth engines. The latter gives a greater sense of Academia vis-à-vis Real life.
Equally important, the social structure of this week creates friendships and social networks, which inspires future cooperation between different people from different countries. The customary International Dinner in which each delegation makes traditional dishes accompanied by its own stories, drinks and cultural merits, is one such example.
Throughout the last few years, the best response this initiative could get, is the continuous growth in the number of participating students and the number of universities that join the program each year. Results and numbers speak for themselves and for now the organization entails 24 different Universities!
The overwhelming desire to join the program led to the need to manage the network and deal with daily issues. These include student arrivals, unplanned funding difficulties of certain IWs and above all, the need to maintain a structure and guidelines that would make this project a well managed one - All in an attempt to establish a long lasting sustainable platform for students to meet and exchange ideas and experiences, .
For this reason, a necessity had risen for all IW organizers to join together and discuss relevant issues as problems, needs, coordination, applications etc. on an annual basis. The first annual meeting was held 5 years ago, and the IWCO was formed. All participants are volunteers and contribute time and funds in order to attend the 3 day meeting. IWCO makes sure that all members are accepted on the basis of equality while the only condition of joining and sending students to other IWs is to hold an IW in their own University. All correspondence is held by the organizers and through the website which is sponsored by student organizations fees to IWCO.
On this website, you will find further information on how to support the many students and initiatives around the world, as well as be able to get in touch with the members and see the value of our organization. On behalf of myself, our executive board and all the students, we welcome you once again. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us on at any time.
Warm regards,
Dino Jugo
President
